Nursing homes in a fog over smoking ban
Contemporary Long-Term Care Weekly, October 16, 2006
Nursing homes in Delaware County, are stuck between a rock and a hard place with the new ban on smoking in public places, The Muncie Star Press reported. In order for a nursing home to receive Medicare funding, it must comply with federal regulations, which allow smoking. On the other hand, if nursing homes do allow smoking, the state health department could fine them. By following the ban, nursing homes could put their Medicare and Medicaid funding at risk, the paper reported. The ban takes effect on July 15, 2007.
