There are many factors that affect a resident's weight, such as age, metabolism, gender, and activity level. Fortunately, CNAs can help residents with weight issues by providing the following healthcare interventions:
- Support. Give support for weight loss efforts. Residents with high levels of social support have more success achieving and maintaining weight loss than those who don't.
- Exercise and dietary strategies. Explain the importance of reduced-fat and low-calorie diets and moderate physical activity to attaining permanent weight loss.
- Education. CNAs can educate residents on the health risks of obesity.
- Eating patterns. Encourage residents to eat slower and wait at least 10 minutes before having a second helping.
