Nursing homes and drug addicts, not a likely mix

Contemporary Long-Term Care Weekly, October 6, 2006

Baby boomers who may have alcohol and drug problems are seeking medical help from nursing homes, reported The Olympian (WA). Chemically dependent residents, with medical issues are typically younger than the average nursing home resident and are able to leave the nursing home during the day. The ability for these residents to come and go puts them at a higher risk for continuing to take illegal drugs, the newspaper reported. There is now a greater need for professionals who are equipped to deal with residents addicted to drugs and alcohol to work in SNFs.
