Proposed rule would change blood glucose reimbursement
Contemporary Long-Term Care Weekly, October 2, 2006
A proposed regulation posted by CMS on Federal Register would change the rules on how SNFs are reimbursed for blood glucose testing under Medicare Part B. Under the proposal, for each reimbursable blood glucose test furnished to a SNF resident, a physician must certify that the test is medically necessary. A physician's standing order would not be sufficient to order a series of blood glucose tests for diabetic residents, according to the proposal. SNFs can test a diabetic resident's blood sugar level multiple times during a single day.
