Nursing homes will want to be aware that CMS has set the Medicare Part A deductible and premiums for 2007. The Part A deductible will increase to $992, an increase of $40 from the $952 rate in 2006, according to a CMS press release. Medicare Part A pays for inpatient hospital, skilled nursing facility, hospice, and certain home health care.

Residents must pay a coinsurance charge on days 21–100 in a SNF Part A stay. The daily coinsurance for the 21st through 100th day in a SNF will be $124 in 2007, up from $119 in 2006, CMS stated. The Part A premium, which only about 1% of Medicare recipients pay, will increase to $410 per month for 2007.
