CNAs are responsible for providing quality care to all residents. To assure that each resident is receiving the quality of care they deserve, nursing homes can use the following five-step process:

  • Assess the resident upon admittance, assemble a medical and social history, and review the physician's orders.
  • Identify the resident's diagnoses related to the activities of daily living, safety, skin care, or elimination.
  • Create objective and measurable short-term and long-term goals for the resident. The goals require visible results and quantifiable progress.
  • Select interventions after the resident's goals are set and provide specific instructions to the staff about the provided measures to help the resident reach the each goal.
  • Evaluate the resident's outcome based on the date set for goal accomplishment. If the goal is not met or only partially met, the goal and the care plan are reassessed
