CNAs are frequently in contact with dying residents as well as their friends and relatives. This gives CNAs a special role in helping with the grieving process. Keep in mind, the physician is the gatekeeper for providing information and be aware of what the resident and family have been told about the resident's condition.

Some of the ways CNAs can be of special help include the following:
* Interacting with the resident
* Availability to the resident and family
* Encouraging family members to express their feelings
* Accepting what you see and hear
* Offering to call the family's spiritual advisor
* Thinking about your own feelings on death
