When residents suffer from an angina attack, they often feel fearful of death. When CNAs remain calm during the episode, it helps residents relax and contributes to relief from the attack. CNAs can also assist residents with anginal pain by putting them in a sitting position to help them breathe more easily.

CNAs should also provide anginal care on a continuing basis to prevent future attacks. Some nursing measures that can reduce risk factors of an attack include the following:

* Encourage exercise

* Ensure residents get enough sleep

* Provide a nutritious diet

* Reduce stress and tension

* Encourage residents to stop smoking

* Monitor blood pressure regularly
