CNAs must take special care of their residents in recovery from hip or knee replacements. CNAs should make sure residents don't bend the new hip joints at more than a 90-degree angle. Ensure this safety measure by giving residents the instructions below on how to properly get out of chairs:
* Tell the residents not to lean forward when they get up
* Have them move to the front edge of the chair and tuck the unaffected leg back against the chair
* Tell them to place the affected leg in front of the unaffected one
* Explain to residents they need to use the arms of the chair to push themselves to a standing position
* CNAs should provide extra support when necessary
