Giving residents choices

Providing residents with choices is an important part of a caregiver's job. However, it often takes the back seat to other priorities such as busy schedules and rushed visits. Always remind staff that it is their duty to allow residents to make decisions regarding their own care and life. The following are some of the areas staff should encourage residents to have a say in:

  • Clothing
  • Bath or shower time
  • Food
  • Bedtime
  • Daily schedule
  • Activities
