CMS recently announced the selection of 73 healthcare professionals who will participate in the agency's Innovation Advisors program, which aims to improve care for patients.
The program was launched in October 2011 by the CMS Innovation Center. Funding was established through the Affordable Care Act. The selected healthcare professionals, who hail from 27 states and the District of Columbia, will receive education that drives improvements to patient care while reducing costs. Following an intensive six-month orientation that begins in January, Innovation Advisors will work with the CMS Innovation Center to test new models of care delivery in their own organizations and communities. Each Innovation Advisor's home organization will receive a stipend of up to $20,000, which supports the individual's activities while serving as an advisor.
