Q. Where can we find evidence-based practices to complete the Care Area Assessments (CAA) of the MDS 3.0?
A. The intent of evidence-based practices is to standardize healthcare practices using science to reduce illogical variations in care. Its goal is to offer and achieve excellence in care delivery by utilizing research findings as the foundation for decisions, activities, and interactions with residents.
Each state has a Quality Improvement Organization that can be a valuable resource for evidence-based practices and expert resources. You can also turn to the general listing of known clinical practice guidelines and tools on p. 84 of Appendix C in the RAI User’s Manual. Evidence-based practices may also be found in books and journals.
