The April 22 SNF Open Door Forum (ODF) was a quick one, with CMS officials only making two announcements before moving to the question and answer portion of the call. One announcement was just to let listeners know that the materials from the April Train-the-Trainer conference will be posted on the CMS Web site in the upcoming weeks. The other announcement was regarding the partial delay of RUG-IV included in healthcare reform. CMS officials said they currently do not have a system that can incorporate the RUG-IV legislative provisions into a RUG-III grouper that would work with the MDS 3.0. CMS officials are working on a solution to this issue and will have more information for providers in a few weeks. Although a caller indicated that there may be a bill (or doc fix) introduced in Congress soon that would repeal the RUG-IV delay included in healthcare reform, CMS refused to comment on this bill. It still sounds like CMS officials are hoping that the RUG-IV delay is repealed and the entire system goes into effect in October but, since the delay is included in current law, they have to move forward and prepare for it.
