JohASRGHASHSAFnson & Johnson accused of paying kickbacks
Contemporary Long-Term Care Weekly, January 21, 2010
In a Justice Department lawsuit filed January 15, Johnson & Johnson is accused of paying millions of dollars in kickbacks to the pharmacy giant, Omnicare. The money, which the government alleges was sometimes masked as educational funding, was intended to increase the company’s prescription drug sales in nursing homes, according to The Washington Post.
Back in November, Omnicare reached a $98 million settlement with the government amidst kickback charges. The Justice Department’s latest lawsuit involving the pharmaceutical company alleges that from 1999-2004, Omnicare increased its drug purchases from Johnson & Johnson while pressuring doctors to use particular Johnson & Johnson products for the treatment of individuals suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
