CMS begins MDS 3.0 satellite broadcast series
Contemporary Long-Term Care Weekly, December 24, 2009
CMS offered the first of three satellite broadcasts detailing the Minimum Data Set (MDS) 3.0 on December 17. Titled “MDS 3.0: Part I – An Introduction,” the training video covered the basics of the Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI), the MDS, and differences between the MDS 2.0 and MDS 3.0. It was mandatory for CMS Regional Office and State Agency long-term care surveyors, surveyor trainers, RAI coordinators, and MDS automation coordinators. SNF providers were encouraged to view the broadcast.
The next training broadcast will cover how to code the MDS 3.0 and will take place in May or June of 2010. The third will discuss the impact of the MDS 3.0 on the long-term care survey processes and payment system, and will take place in June or July of 2010. The December 17 broadcast, as well as all future broadcasts, can be viewed on the surveyor training Web site, http://surveyortraining.cms.hhs.gov/.
