New Jersey nursing home company faces alleged labor violations

Contemporary Long-Term Care Weekly, December 24, 2009

The National Labor Relations Board filed a complaint against Omni Health System of New Jersey, which operates three nursing homes in Hudson County, on the grounds that the company harassed and intimidated workers for taking part in lawful union practices, according to The Jersey Journal.

Omni Health System is also accused of refusing to reinstate 14 striking employees. Working without a contract since July 2007, about 300 workers went on a three-day strike in August. The union, SEIU 1199 United Healthcare Workers East, sought better wages and benefits in a new contract. If the complaint is upheld by an administrative law judge, the 14 workers will be reinstated with back pay.
