Helpful tips: Hospice care in SNFs

Hospice agencies typically provide services in the home of the beneficiary. But in some cases, particularly when the individual also requires some form of skilled care, these services can be provided at a SNF.
Regardless of where an individual lives, in their home or in a SNF, hospice care can be billed to Medicare. The hospice services available to the beneficiary are the same no matter what the location.
As a result, SNF billers must be aware of how hospice billing requirements and protocol can affect what goes on in their own billing office. The differences and resulting changes in billing demand attention, but they are not detrimental to a SNF.
