ADRs: Don’t be alarmed, be responsive

Chances are your facility has received, or at some point will receive, an additional documentation request (ADR) from your Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) or fiscal intermediary (FI).

A wide range of factors are capable of causing an ADR, with some more common than others. Leaving key information off of a claim, mistakenly entering numbers or data, or extensively using certain codes are all potential triggers. Your MAC or FI may also issue an ADR simply to verify a particular portion of a claim.
