Bed hold policies are not regulated by Medicare; however, Medicaid can be used as a payer source. As a result, the payment specifics vary from state-to-state.
Still, there are a couple of consistent guidelines that SNFs should follow, says Yelena Koltsova, vice president at Wern & Associates Long-Term Care Consultants in Warren, OH.
These guidelines should help facilities better accommodate the needs of their residents while alleviating potential issues related to bed holds.
