The first shipments of H1N1 vaccine have been sent from the production plants of at least three of the four manufacturers to Department of Heath and Human Services (HHS) distribution centers across the U.S. According to CNN, just over 75 million doses are expected to be delivered by the end of the year.

One dose of the vaccine, which has been approved in a nasal spray and injection form, triggers an immune response in healthy adults and children as young as nine. Clinical trials involving pregnant women are currently being conducted, as it is believed they face increased risk from H1N1. Kathleen Sebelius, HHS secretary, estimated that as many as 90,000 vaccination sites would be ready by mid-month.
