Long-term care insurance grows amid political spotlight

Parents have always shared similar fears. The causes for worry may have evolved over time, but parents’ instinctual need to protect their offspring remains unchanged.
Today, one of those common fears is that aging parents will become financial burdens to their children. This may be one of many reasons why a growing number of Americans are buying long-term care insurance.
In 2000, the average age of an individual purchasing long-term care insurance was 67. In the nine years since, that number has dropped to 57, according to Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance in Westlake Village, CA.
