CMS: Code for the seasonal flu vaccine only
Contemporary Long-Term Care Weekly, September 17, 2009
As this year’s flu season rapidly approaches, CMS has instructed nursing facilities to code the MDS 2.0 for the seasonal influenza vaccine only, and not the H1N1 influenza vaccine. The H1N1 vaccine is expected to be ready by October, according to CNN. CMS is asking nursing facilities to refer to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Web site for information regarding the H1N1 virus, also known as the swine flu.
The Web site contains a variety of free resources detailing current national influenza conditions. In addition to vaccination facts, CDC offers prevention tips and information designed for specific groups, including:
- People with diabetes
- People with HIV/AIDS
- Health professionals and the workplace
