CMS released the final rule for fiscal year (FY) 2010 payment updates to SNFs July 28, leaving many industry leaders concerned about the future of long-term care.
The final rule contains information about upcoming changes for SNFs and provides CMS’ responses to public comments regarding provisions in the proposed rule and the possible requirement for the quarterly reporting of staffing data. However, many SNFs and industry leaders are focusing their attention on two major components of the final rule: the estimated $360 million reduction in Medicare payments to SNFs in FY 2010 and establishment of the Resource Utilization Group, Version Four (RUG-IV) implementation in FY 2011.
