Apparent scabies outbreak closes nursing home
Contemporary Long-Term Care Weekly, August 6, 2009
A nursing home in Evansville, IN shut its doors to the public on August 4 as the result of an apparent scabies outbreak. It’s the third time in the last two weeks that the Columbia Healthcare Center has closed, according to WTVW Fox 7.
Though representatives of the facility have declined to comment, employees and customers have come forward confirming the allegations. One frequent visitor reported that he heard scabies has been an issue since March at Columbia Healthcare Center, which is owned by American Senior Communities Company. The Indiana State Health Department is investigating, according to WTVW’s latest report.
