CMS updates UB-04 point of origin codes
Contemporary Long-Term Care Weekly, July 30, 2009
Beginning January 4, 2010, Medicare’s claims processing systems will accept two new point of origin (formerly source of admission) codes, which were created by the National Uniform Billing Committee and released on July 24. The E and F codes will be used in FL 15 of the UB-04, according to a recently released MLN Matters article.
An E code indicates the individual was either transferred from or referred to the facility for outpatient or diagnostic services by an ambulatory surgical center. The F code stands for a transfer from a hospice and indicates the individual is under a hospice plan of care or enrolled in a hospice program.
