Long-term care billing policies and regulations are constantly changing, and as a result, many SNF business offices run into problems. Unfortunately, there are very few resources to help SNF billers overcome the daily challenges of their job.

Rather than let your questions go unanswered, take a lesson from Hillary Larson, finance administrative assistant and billing specialist at Jackson County (MI) Medical Care Facility, and do something about it.

“When I started billing a little over a year ago, I had a lot of questions,” Larson says. “Seminars and conferences are good places to get advice from others in the field, but I thought it would be great if I could discuss my issues with other billers on a daily basis.”

Larson took off running with her idea, and in the fall of 2008, she established a billers’ forum in which participants can bounce their ideas, advice, and questions off each other via e-mail. Currently, 11 medical care facilities in Southern Michigan participate in the forum.
