Q. If a resident has a pressure ulcer on his foot and receives a daily dressing change, where is this captured in Section M of the MDS?

A. Can it be coded in more than one place? It would be coded in multiple places, as each item must be completed based on the instructions for that item and without regard to other items. For example, a pressure ulcer on the foot with dressing changes would be coded in M1, ulcers; M2a, pressure ulcers; M5e, ulcer care; M6c, open lesions on the foot; and M6f, application of dressings.
