CMS posted an updated MDS 3.0 timeline on its Web site Thursday, revised to reflect the October 2010 implementation date.
Under the new timeline, long-term care providers can expect to see the final MDS 3.0 data specifications and RAI User’s Manual released in October 2009.
Another MDS 3.0 timeline was posted at the CMS MDS 3.0 site on April 7, but the Web site was apparently disabled soon after the timeline was posted. CMS officials said the site was missing because of technical problems at a SNF/Long-Term Care Open Door Forum Thursday. An updated version MDS 3.0 Web site, including a revised MDS 3.0 timeline, appeared on the CMS Web site Thursday afternoon.
“For those of you who noticed and said ‘Oh my God, the sky is falling, something is really wrong,’ it’s much more of a computer glitch than anything else,” said Sheila Lambowitz, division director of CMS’ Chronic Care policy group.
The updated Web site includes only the revised MDS 3.0 timeline and the RAND MDS 3.0 final report and appendix–the MDS 3.0 draft is no longer posted at the site. The most recent timeline posted is similar to the one posted last week, except the items related to the state-specific Section S have been removed.
