CMS posted an updated MDS 3.0 timeline on its Web site Tuesday, but apparently removed the timeline on Wednesday. The original MDS 3.0 timeline has been adjusted to reflect the new implementation date, which was recently delayed until October 2010.
According to the revised timeline, the next milestone for long-term care providers will occur this month or in May, when the SNF PPS proposed rule is expected to be published in the Federal Register.
Nursing facilities should expect to receive more important information about the MDS 3.0 in October, when CMS says it will publish:
- The final MDS 3.0 data specifications, including RUGs, RAP triggers, and Quality Measures/Quality Indicators (QM/QIs)
- MDS 3.0 data elements, including admission, quarterly, swing bed, and discharge MDSes
- The MDS 3.0 RAI User’s Manual
