MedPAC recommends zero update for SNF payments in 2010
Contemporary Long-Term Care Weekly, March 19, 2009
A commission that advises Congress on Medicare issues says SNFs should not receive an increase in Medicare payments in 2010.
The Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC), told the House Ways and Means Committee on March 17 that Medicare payments have outpaced SNFs’ costs, partly because of the increase in the number of days classified into the highest-payment case-mix groups, according to MedPAC’s testimony. MedPAC recommended no update to SNFs' Medicare payments in 2010.
American Health Care Association (AHCA) President Bruce Yarwood said MedPAC’s recommendation ignores the reality that Medicare reimbursements supplement the under-funded Medicaid program, according to a statement released by AHCA. AHCA recommended that Congress maintain the full market basket for SNFs in 2010.
