CMS takes action with DEMPOS competitive bidding
Contemporary Long-Term Care Weekly, February 5, 2009
CMS issued an interim final regulation on January 15 that details changes to the competitive bidding program for durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics, and supplies (DMEPOS), according to a CMS press release. Under the new law, contracts awarded in round one of the competitive bidding process will be terminated and put out to bid a second time.
The new law also institutes a document review process, requires disclosure of subcontracting agreements, and introduces exclusions and exemptions from the competitive bidding program, according to the press release. CMS is expected to release more information about the competitive bidding program in the upcoming months.
