Medicare launches PHR Choice pilot
Contemporary Long-Term Care Weekly, January 22, 2009
CMS announced the launch of the Medicare PHR [personal health record] Choice pilot program in Arizona and Utah on January 13, according to a CMS press release. The program, which will be coordinated by Noridian Administrative Services, will give beneficiaries the opportunity to maintain their PHR information electronically using products offered by selected companies.
PHR products are designed to track health record information and beneficiaries participating in the pilot can choose from a variety of these tools, ranging from free products to ones that offer additional services for a fee, according to a CMS press release. Unlike electronic health records, which are owned and maintained by a physician, PHRs are maintained by beneficiaries and can include information entered by the beneficiary, notes from providers, and, for this pilot, Medicare claims data.
