Q: What if the resident has no MDS Cognitive Performance Score (CPS) score available to determine if he or she can be interviewed?

Diane: The CPS score is actually calculated by MDS software. However, if the resident has had a change since the survey team has come in, or things have changed since the last MDS, there is a worksheet inside the Quality Indicator Survey (QIS) manual. It’s a one-page instruction sheet on how to recalculate the CPS, based on five-questions.
