Q. If rehab places a resident’s therapy on hold pending the arrival of equipment, how long can we wait without any therapy being provided before we have to deny coverage?He doesn’t have any other skilled need.
A. Therapy hold is not recognized by Medicare Part A. Either the resident is receiving rehab or he isn’t. If you know equipment won’t be there within a couple of days, therapy should be discontinued. When therapy is to be resumed, new orders should be received.
