Results of Medicare D and Medicaid reimbursement research

Contemporary Long-Term Care Weekly, November 13, 2008

An HCPro study exploring how Medicare Part D plan policies for drugs has affected quality of care among nursing home residents has been published in the November edition of the American Journal of Managed Care. “The Impact of Therapeutic Switching in LTC” concluded that pharmacy treatment effectiveness was lower after formulary-related switches. As a result, the authors said that Part D organizations may want to carefully consider adding clinicians with LTC experience to their clinical and various pharmacy and therapeutics committees, or consider taking a closer look at switching policies for Medicare Part D beneficiaries in LTC.  Contact the author, Bryan Cote, at bcote@hcpro.com to receive the paper.
