CMS recently released new MDS 3.0 information, including the Item Set Draft and Data Specifications, giving providers an opportunity to view the final draft details of the new assessment system before it is implemented next year.
The item set draft includes MDS 3.0 items that could be included in the final form. Although the draft is meant to help providers prepare for the new assessment, it is important to note that draft items are subject to change.

The MDS 3.0 implementation remains on schedule and is still expected to go into effect October 1, 2009, CMS officials said during a recent SNF Long-Term Care Open Door Forum.
