OIG responds to nursing homes deficiencies

Contemporary Long-Term Care Weekly, October 16, 2008

In 2005, 2006, and 2007, over 91% of surveyed nursing homes were cited for deficiencies. The most common deficiency categories continue to be quality of care, resident assessment, and quality of life, according to a memorandum report from Office of Inspector General (OIG).

In response to the findings, OIG will supplement the 2000 compliance program guidance (CPG) for nursing homes. The supplemental CPG will included new compliance recommendations and a larger focus on risk areas, according to a September 30 Federal Register notice.
