Q. At my skilled nursing facility (SNF), we don’t bill Medicare Part B for wound care supplies under the surgical dressing benefit. Can we bill the resident instead for these supplies?
A. Many SNFs don’t want to do the tracking necessary to bill wound care supplies and other billable Part B supplies and services. If you choose not to bill Medicare, that is a facility option. However, don’t turn around and bill the resident privately. You are precluded from doing that based on federal regulation.
