CMS announces new permanent recovery audit contractors

On October 6, CMS announced the launch of the national recovery audit contractor (RAC) program, just one step in the agency’s plan to further prevent waste, fraud, and abuse in Medicare, according to a CMS press release.
There are four new RACs, each responsible for ¼ of the nation, whose purpose are to review paid Medicare Part A and B claims to ensure that statutory, regulatory, and policy requirements were met, reports the press release. The new RACs and their territories are as follows:
- Diversified Collection Services, Inc. of Livermore, CA– Region A, initially working in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New York.
- CGI Technologies and Solutions, Inc. of Fairfax, VA – Region B, initially working in Michigan, Indiana, and Minnesota.
- Connolly Consulting Associates, Inc. of Wilton, CT – Region C, initially working in South Carolina, Florida, Colorado, and New Mexico.
- HealthDataInsights, Inc. of Las Vegas, NV – Region D, initially working in Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, and Arizona.
