CMS awarded a total of $8.3 million in grants to states with programs to raise awareness of home-based alternatives to traditional nursing home care through the Real Choice Systems Changes program, according to a Sept. 9 CMS press release.

The dollar value of grants awarded this year declined from 2007, when CMS awarded $13.9 million for programs designed to help people with long-term illnesses and disabilities reside in their homes, according to information posted on CMS’ Web site.

This year, Kansas, Alaska, South Carolina, Wisconsin, Oregon, Idaho, and Missouri received grants from the Real Choice System Changes program.
