SNFs to receive an increase in Medicare payment rates

Nursing homes will receive an increase of $780 million in Medicare payment rates next year, according to a CMS press release. This gain is due to the 3.4% market basket increase which reimburses facilities that provide quality care, according to CMS’ Acting Administrator
Also, the RUG categories used under the SNF PPS will be revisited because the addition of new RUG categories resulted in higher Medicare payments, when they were originally predicted to be budget neutral. To read more, go to the CMS Web site.
