Sprinkler systems now required in nursing homes

Contemporary Long-Term Care Weekly, June 26, 2008

CMS released a new regulation that requires long-term care facilities to install sprinkler systems throughout their facilities in order to serve Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries, according to the CMS Web site.

Facilities have five years to install sprinkler systems that are compliant with this regulation. There has never been a fire resulting in multiple fatalities in a facility that has a sprinkler system that meets all of the necessary requirements of the new rule, according to CMS.
