Your facility has policies regarding information to mark on an IV container. The pharmacy may provide a label with some or all of this information. Use a label. Never write on a plastic bottle or bag with ink or permanent marker. The IV bag or bottle should list the following:

  • Resident's name
  • Room number
  • Date and time
  • Container number
  • Flow rate ordered
  • Duration of the infusion
  • Your name or initials
  • Add a time tape, if used by your facility.
