Memory is the ability to recall what is experienced, learned, or retained. Evaluate the resident's ability to remember using the following:

  • Short term: Short-term memory is the primary or active memory. It stores a limited amount of information for a limited amount of time. Some experts state that no more than seven items can be stored in the short-term memory.
  • Past: The past memory is the result of a recent mental processing. It may be called the working memory.
  • Long term: Long-term memory stores an unlimited amount of information indefinitely. It can be described as the capacity (or capacities) to retain information in an active, highly available state.
