Bush announces a proposed $196 billion Medicare spending

Over the next five years, Medicare and Medicaid could expect a $196 billion cut if President Bush's new budget proposal is passed, according to Health Day News. The cuts would help prevent Medicare from running out of money in 10 years. If the plan is approved, Medicare spending would decrease to 5% instead of the projected 7%. While, Medicaid spending growth would decrease from 7.3% to 7%. These cuts are part of President Bush's $3.1 trillion 2009 budget proposal, according to Health Day News.
