CMS revises exhibits to the State Operations Manual

Contemporary Long-Term Care Weekly, December 13, 2007

CMS has conducted a comprehensive review of the exhibits to the State Operations Manual (SOM) and added, deleted, or revised several of them.

Exhibits include model language for official CMS correspondence and notices, official CMS forms, reporting formats and worksheets, and supplemental guides for instructions in the SOM chapters and the appendices. As a result of the review, CMS is revising the online SOM (i.e., Internet-only Manual, Pub. 100-07) by:

  • Deleting obsolete exhibits
  • Updating and standardizing model language
  • Adding new exhibits
  • Adding hyperlinks to the CMS Web site for exhibits that are forms

CMS is also reviewing the ASPEN (Automated Survey Processing Environment) system to determine if there are exhibits in that system that need parallel updating.

See http://www.cms.hhs.gov/SurveyCertificationGenInfo/downloads/SCletter08-06.pdf for a list of all exhibits indicating additions, deletions, and revisions, as well as advance copies of the new or revised exhibits. The online version of the SOM exhibits can be accessed at http://www.cms.hhs.gov/manuals/downloads/som107c09_exhibitstoc.pdf.
