AANAC member survey shows where the time goes

The American Association of Nurse Assessment Coordinators (AANAC)  asked members to estimate the average time it takes them to complete various Minimum Data Set assessments for the average resident in their facility. The association received 627 responses to its survey.

 

Results showed that:

  • An initial comprehensive assessment took an average of 2.62 hours
  • A full Medicare assessment took 2.03 hours
  • A significant change in status assessment took 2.23 hours
  • A quarterly or shortened form took 0.97 hour

The average time to complete a care plan was 1.17 hours, and the average time spent per resident in care planning was reported as 0.98 hour. Complete survey results can be found on the association's Web site, http://www.aanac.org.
