A work plan is ongoing documentation that will help you keep track of your facility's compliance efforts. Since the plan records your facility's commitment to compliance, it can shield you from government scrutiny while you're in the process of implementing the corporate compliance program.

Because a work plan can be one of your most valuable compliance tools, it's important to create it promptly and correctly. There is no single format for developing a work plan, but experts suggest you create a document that is clear, concise, and realistic.

Minimally, work plans should designate the following:

1. The compliance tasks being executed.
2. The person(s) responsible for each task.
3. The exptected date of completion.
4. Any comments or concerns that come up along the way.
