Presidential candidate wants drug makers to wait two years before advertising

Presidential hopeful John Edwards believes drug manufacturers should have to wait two years before advertising their products directly to consumers.

Edwards recently outlined his plan to regulate what he terms misleading pharmaceutical advertisements. In addition to the two-year advertising ban, Edwards would require pharmaceutical manufacturers to receive FDA approval of any major advertising campaign. He would also increase the penalties for violating the Federal Trade Commission Act's truth in advertising rules.
