Grassley to propose national physician payment disclosure registry
Pharma Compliance Alert, August 8, 2007
Senior Senate Finance Committee member Charles Grassley says he will propose legislation to form a federal registry of pharma payments to physicians.
Grassley said he has begun investigating physician payments and has sent letters to universities to better understand their reporting systems, according to The New York Times. His proposal would require pharma to publicize payments made to doctors who bill Medicare and Medicaid.
Grassley compared payments to physicians to payments to politicians, adding that consumers can easily look up campaign finance information and that doctors should be held to the same standard, according to the Times.
